Ask Someone What They Need

Ask Someone What They Need

It seems like such an obvious thing to ask a family member or friend if they are okay and if they need anything.

You wouldn’t hesitate to help or get them whatever they needed.

Many people have basic needs that you can financially cover or even have extras of or unused items that can be donated without you missing it as much as it would mean to someone else.

It’s such an easy thing to do, we sometimes forget.

Approach slowly and calmly.

As you are about four to eight feet away put a friendly smile on your face.

In a soft, easily heard and understood voice let the individual(s) know why you are there and what you are offering.

  • Example: “Hi. We’re handing out water and supplies for free. Can you use a bottle of water, fruit, and socks?”

If you do not already have the item(s) out, at a reasonable pace and in a non-confrontational manner reach out and offer the item(s) to the individuals who said, “yes,” to any item(s).

If you have a moment, chat with them.

Ask if they know where anyone else may be that can use some help.

Leave on a positive note:

  • Smile and say, “Goodbye. Try to have a nice day and stay positive.”

Approach at an uncomfortably startling speed stopping on a dime directly in front of the individual(s) you want to help.

Leaning forward, ensure you invade their personal space and with a manic face stare them directly in the eyes.

Know the individual(s) want everything you are offering them, right now.

Quickly reach into your bag or coat and throw the items at the individual(s), presuming (fingers-crossed) they can catch.

Let the individual(s) know how awesome you are for doing this.
