Harvest Locally + Fund-Raise With Donations From Yourself, Family, Friends, Co-Workers, and Local + National Businesses and Organizations

  • Look in your dresser drawers, closets, cupboards, attics, basements, storage facility, etc.
  • Fundraise by asking FAMILY, FRIENDS, and CO-WORKERS to look in their dresser drawers, closets, and cupboards.
  • Ask local business owners for any leftovers or items they are throwing away at the end of the night/week/month.
  • Ask your place of employment or where you volunteer if you can:
    • Harvest any food that gets thrown out from the cafeteria or breakroom.
    • Harvest any clothing or other swag they are going to throw away or have stored for a while and they no longer need.
    • Send an e-mail to your department or the entire company explaining S.C.A.Y. and asking for donations.
      • You may be able to explain S.C.A.Y. to people who will pick S.C.A.Y. up in their own time. Ideas marinate in the mind over time.
  • Ask local service and support agencies for excess.
    • Food Banks and Local Social Service Organizations
      • They have food that has expired that day which is still good for several more days or weeks, depending upon the item.
      • They have too much inventory, they need to throw out food to make room for the new inventory coming in.
      • Thrift Shops
      • Religious Organizations
  • Ask major organizations
    • Corporations often have excess, seasonal, or “imperfect” items they are going to throw away.
    • Corporations like to donate for goodwill and tax write-offs.
